U.S. to Investigate and Sanction Supporters of Haitian Gangs

Washington classifies armed groups in Haiti as terrorist organizations in a move to protect regional and national security.
The U.S. Ambassador to Haiti, Dennis B. Hankins, announced that criminal gangs operating in Haiti have been officially designated as terrorist organizations by the United States. This decision is part of an effort to restore security in Haiti and protect U.S. national interests.
During a virtual press briefing with Haitian journalists on Monday, Ambassador Hankins revealed that the U.S. Department of Justice will soon launch major investigations targeting individuals based in the United States who are financially supporting armed gangs in Haiti.
He also warned that visa and immigration sanctions are planned for anyone found to be aiding these criminal groups.
This initiative is part of a broader U.S. strategy to cut off financial support to gangs and enhance bilateral security cooperation.
